For my Mentorship final project at Think Tank Training Centre / TTO, I created Burning Man, a representation of our connection to Mother Nature. As man destroys nature, he is destroying himself. The realization comes as the destruction is felt on his own skin.

 

I was fortunate to have Claudia Marvisi, Head of Texturing at PIXOMONDO, as my mentor. Claudia’s mentoring was a real intensive deep dive on texturing, particular because this character is mostly skin, so understanding the techniques and detailing of skin folds, anatomy and color was a big part of this project. She also instilled in me the work ethic and project management skills used in big studios like Pixomondo. I spent a lot of time on Zbrush getting the sculpting to a place where his skin would be the center piece of this character. I used both Substance Painter for the foundation of the texture and Mari, for the main details and majority of the texturing phase. I rendered with Arnold, Maya, used Nuke for compositing and Davinci Resolve for the final reel.
